Sanborn Lake is a 220-acre clear water lake in Cass County, Minnesota, reaching a maximum depth of 48 feet across 2 miles of heavily developed shoreline east of Backus. DNR surveys have rated the lake as healthy — well above the impairment threshold for aquatic life — and its clear, moderately deep water supports a diverse fishery of Black Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Bluegill, Rock Bass, Pumpkinseed, Yellow Perch, and multiple Bullhead species. A strong Smallmouth Bass population and good water clarity make Sanborn a standout among the many lakes in the Backus and Hackensack corridor.
